LONDON (Reuters) – Wildfires erupted in marshes outside the English city of Liverpool on Saturday, threatening nearby properties, authorities said.
Footage posted by locals on social media showed a sprawling blaze and plumes of smoke rising high into the sky around Parkgate Nature Reserve on the Wirral Peninsula, around 11km south of Liverpool.
The fire affected around 500 square meters (598 square meters) of marshland and was likely started deliberately, the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
In its latest update at 21:17 GMT, the service said it had implemented firewalls and reduced the number of engines present to five from six previously.
