US diplomat Donfried to visit Ukraine and Russia

LIVERPOOL, England (Reuters) – The United States will send its top diplomat for Europe to Russia and Ukraine to discuss the constitution of Russian troops and reiterate the United States’ commitment to Ukrainian sovereignty, the State Department announced on Saturday.

“Deputy Secretary of the Office for European and Eurasian Affairs, Dr Karen Donfried, will travel to Kiev, Ukraine and Moscow, Russia from December 13-15 to meet with senior government officials to discuss the military build-up of the Russia and to strengthen the United States’ commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, ”the ministry said.

“Donfried will emphasize that we can make diplomatic progress to end the conflict in Donbass through the implementation of the Minsk accords in support of the Normandy format.”
