Nottingham Forest sent a contract plea to Brice Samba amid Man Utd transfer blow
Nottingham Forest fans are calling on the club to review contract talks with goalkeeper Brice Samba after they reportedly received a blow in their transfer talks with Manchester United over a loan deal for Dean Henderson.
The 25-year-old England international has been linked with a temporary switch to the City Ground this month, but the move would no longer include the option to buy which could open up the possibility of bringing James Garner back again. These early rumors emerged in light of reports that Samba, who has just 12 months left on his contract, turned down an extension offer from the club.
Forest fans will be hoping this reported move from Man United will inspire the Reds to redouble their efforts to retain their current keeper this summer. Here is a selection of the reaction to the latest Henderson update on our Forest news Facebook page and the Nottinghamshire Live comments section.

REVD : You don’t want or need Henderson – settle a contract with Samba and save tens of millions in the process. Heard Henderson was on £100,000 a week – he’d have to take a 75% pay cut before we even considered joining him. IMO – we have a great keeper in Samba.
mikkhntl : I would like to know the truth about Brice, he is a greedy agent, he is homesick or what? Surely he wants to play in the best league in the world.
Forestkev : If we can’t get that with a call option, maybe we could start looking elsewhere or try to get Samba to change its mind.
juba : No headache if it’s a choice between a dubious English goalkeeper or Jimmy Garner COYR KEEP SAMBA.
ChrissyD : So hard to know which is better as we haven’t heard directly from people in the know so we can only speculate. I never thought that when we got a promotion we would talk about a Samba move and we still don’t know if that’s going to happen or not. If he’s away, I’d be worried about having a first-choice keeper on a loan-only deal.
There would be at least two games he couldn’t play for us (Man Utd home and away) and our second keeper (Horvath) also seems unsteady in wanting regular football. What a mess! IF Samba leaves and IF we go for Henderson, we need an option to buy clause. It would open up a potential Garner loan and give us more security in this pivotal role. Let’s not give in to every Man Utd wish – we have to stick to our guns around what’s best for us!
Sean Patrick: We are not going to sign it.
Aaron J. Owen: It’s all about Garner. Apparently I’m trying to buy it. We’ll see.
Redisthecolor : Still in shock about Samba, but if we can get Henderson, we really must. I expect a wave of announcements on July 1 when the contracts end. There have been very few confirmed signings in the PL so far. We shouldn’t panic at all. Concerning the situation of the goalkeeper; I can see Hovarth asking for a loan until January to get some games, with the WC coming up. This could leave us with Smith as a backup keeper for 6 months – not ideal!!
