Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams set to leave Anfield this summer

A number of Liverpool’s first-team stars have already seen the exit door this summer, but more departures are expected at Anfield over the coming weeks.

From these sales, Liverpool brought in around £60 million in capital. Raising £17m from the sale of Neco Williams was seen as a significant coup.

However, Williams might not be the latest academy graduate to leave Liverpool this summer.

According to Goal’s Neil Jones, centre-backs Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams are set to leave Anfield in this transfer window.

Rhys Williams, on the other hand, will not leave the Reds permanently.

Blackpool are currently favorites to sign the 21-year-old on loan after finishing 16th in the Championship last season.

Amid a midfield injury crisis in the 2020/21 season at Liverpool, Williams made 9 appearances for the Liverpool first team, establishing himself as an exciting talent.

Since then, however, opportunities have been scarce and, like most young centre-backs, he needs a loan spell to build muscle and mature.

Jürgen Klopp can safely let Phillips and Williams go knowing he already has a number of quality centre-back options.

Alongside the ubiquitous Virgil Van Dijk, Klopp can choose from Ibrahima Konaté, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. He recently signed a new contract.

There is clearly room for flexibility at the back at Liverpool, lending to the idea of fresh starts from the first team.
