Manchester United asked to pay £ 30million to sign Danny Ings
Manchester United will have to shell out £ 30million to acquire the services of Danny Ings, who has been identified as a potential alternative for Harry Kane.
According to The Telegraph, Manchester United have put together a list of alternatives in case they fail in their pursuit of Harry Kane. Southampton striker Danny Ings is among those included on that list, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues his search for a new striker in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Formerly from Liverpool, Ings was valued at around £ 30million by Southampton. The Saints may have no choice but to take advantage of their star striker as his contract at St. Mary’s Stadium expires at the end of next season. This means they might be forced to sell it for free in a year, if they can’t get rid of Ings this summer.
Manchester United are keen to take advantage of this and sign the forward for a reduced price. Their interest in the Southampton star may seem a bit surprising, given that they recently extended Edinson Cavani’s contract for another year.
However, it looks like one of their main attackers, Anthony Martial, faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford. The Frenchman is said to be courted by Tottenham Hotspur, who are ready to shell out € 35m for his services.
This is where Danny Ings could be a viable target for Manchester United. The former Burnley star is widely regarded as one of the best forwards in the league, due to his success at Southampton, scoring 46 goals out of a total of 100 appearances in competition.
Ings notably ended the 2019/20 campaign as one of the league’s top scorers with 22 goals. His tally of 12 goals this quarter may seem disappointing in the context, but the forward’s progress has been interrupted by frequent injuries. He nevertheless has an impressive record of 55 Premier League goals in 140 appearances.
At Manchester United, Ings will prove to be an ideal contender for Cavani. And having failed to impress during his time at Liverpool, the Southampton star will relish the opportunity to play for the Red Devils and finally prove himself on the big stages.

That said, it remains to be seen whether Solskjaer will be willing to invest £ 30million for Ings’s services this summer. Much could depend on how he manages to get rid of his fringe players, including Martial, as well as Daniel James and Jesse Lingard, who is wanted by West Ham as part of a permanent deal.
