Manchester City duo reprimanded by Pep Guardiola for disciplinary breach
Manchester City duo Jack Grealish and Phil Foden were notable absent in City’s 4-1 win over Newcastle on Sunday. Many were puzzled by the surprising omission of Foden and Grealish, both of whom have been important to Pep Guardiola this season.
Phil Foden is having another successful season as he has managed to score four goals and assist three times this season. With a G / A of 7 out of 11 appearances, it’s clear why Pep Guardiola trusts him so much, ahead of Raheem Sterling.
While Jack Grealish only has a G / A of 4 to show (2 goals plus 2 assists), he has been a regular part of the Pep’s XI this term.
That said, the duo were part of City XI which annihilated Leeds United at the Etihad by seven goals to nil. Moreover, Foden and Grealish managed to appear on the scoresheet during this game.
After the historic victory, Foden and Grealish apparently went to a nightclub and this was known because of a few footage that later resurfaced. In fact, Pep Guardiola was reportedly “unhappy” with the state in which the England team-mates arrived at the recovery session the following morning.
Speaking of the absent duo, Guardiola said:
“It wasn’t a rotation, no. I picked this team because they deserved to play – these guys and not the others.
“At Christmas I pay a lot of attention to the behavior on and off the pitch. And when off the field is not appropriate, they are not going to play.

Both Grealish and Foden were unused substitutes in City’s vital victory over the Magpies on Sunday. Sunday’s victory also saw City extend their lead at the top of the table, with Chelsea and Liverpool dropping points on Matchday 18.
One thing is clear, Pep Guardiola is not the man to tolerate indiscipline of any kind in his ranks. Hopefully Grealish and Foden learn from this experience and learn only from it.
